Why it's worth checking out
Beefy’s Buderim is part of a Sunshine Coast pie business that has been making pies and pastries since its first store opened at Aussie World in 1997. The Buderim location followed in 1998, and the business has since grown across South-East Queensland while keeping its production based in its own kitchen and using local ingredients. The shop’s offering is built around pies and pastries, with options intended for eating in store, taking on the run or bringing home.
The menu includes Beefy’s Signature Steak Pie, a long-running award winner at the Official Great Aussie Meat Pie Competition, as well as the Aussie Special, also known as the Ned Kelly Pie. Other named options in the company’s competition history include the Thai Green Curry Chicken Pie and the Angus Steak with Sautéed Onions and Buttered Mushrooms Pie. Beefy’s also sells sausage rolls, hot chips and sweet treats, giving solo visitors, families and groups a range of straightforward bakery choices for a snack, lunch or casual meal.
Gluten-free customers are particularly well catered for. Beefy’s offers a dedicated range of gluten-free pies, sausage rolls and sweets, including gluten-free versions of its Signature Steak and Steak, Bacon & Cheese pies, plus gluten-free lamingtons. The range is endorsed by Coeliac Australia, with products individually packaged and produced using separate and/or shared equipment that is cleaned and inspected before gluten-free production. Several gluten-free products have also won at the Official Great Aussie Meat Pie Competition, including the Gluten Free Steak, Bacon & Cheese Pie, which was named Australia’s Best Gluten Free Pie in 2015, 2016, 2020 and 2021.
There is a family story behind that gluten-free range. In 2013, Beefy’s baker Mark Hobbs began developing a gluten-free meat pie and sausage roll after his son Michael was diagnosed with coeliac disease. The project led to a gold medal for the gluten-free Signature Steak Pie in 2014 and further awards in later years. The business also highlights its involvement in the local community, including fundraising for the Queensland Children’s Hospital. For Buderim locals, visiting families, tourists and pie enthusiasts, Beefy’s offers a practical, casual stop with a strong Sunshine Coast history and plenty of choice for both gluten-free and traditional bakery customers.
