Korean Veterans War Memorial Queensland

Set within Cascade Gardens in Alexandra Headland on the Sunshine Coast, the Korean Veterans War Memorial Queensland is a place for quiet reflection and learning about the Korean War. The memorial is free to visit and listed as open 24 hours, making it possible to include in a coastal walk or visit at your own pace.

The site was gifted to Queensland by the Republic of Korea and the Korean community in August 2011. Its central Korean Wall features ten relief murals representing the air, navy and army forces involved in the conflict, while also recognising veterans, prisoners of war and those missing in action. The sculptures and plaques tell the story of the war and the contribution of Australian forces, with explanatory text presented in both Korean and English.

The memorial is arranged as a remembrance garden, with flags representing the United Nations, Australia and the Republic of Korea. At the southern end, a tribute focuses on the Royal Australian Regiment’s land forces and includes battlefield stones presented by Gapyeong County. A northern section is dedicated to Korean citizens and veterans, adding further context to the memorial’s shared history.
