Why it's worth checking out
Leighton Contemporary is a boutique contemporary art gallery and consultancy in Noosaville, presenting a changing programme of exhibitions alongside longer-term relationships with artists. The gallery represents artists from Australia, New Zealand and further afield, with an emphasis on contemporary practice and thoughtful connections between artists, collectors and the wider community. Its programme includes both emerging artists and mid-career and established practitioners developing significant new bodies of work.
The gallery’s 2026 programme gives an indication of its scope. From 4 September, Adam Halls and Amy Wright will present ‘The Sea Carries Flowers Too’ in the Noosaville gallery and online. A group exhibition featuring Konstantina, Shaun Daniel Allen (SHAL) and Tylah Saunders is scheduled from 27 November, also across the physical and online galleries. These exhibitions follow the May 2025 Noosaville launch, ‘promise paintings’, which brought together Paige Northwood and Skye Jamieson.
That launch exhibition centred on movement, mark making, relationships and the artists’ physical engagement with materials and place. Northwood works across clay and painting, exploring memory, emotion and sensory experience, while Jamieson’s painting and drawing practice responds to water, light and her surroundings. Their contrasting approaches—one expressive and immediate, the other quieter and more contemplative—created a conversation between the works and the viewer. The exhibition offers a useful sense of the gallery’s interest in process, materiality and embodied approaches to making.
Located at 5/64 Gateway Drive, the Noosaville gallery can be visited Tuesday to Friday from 11am to 2pm, or by appointment, with appointments available on Monday and across the weekend. The appointment option is particularly relevant for anyone wanting to discuss a specific artwork, explore collecting or arrange a more considered gallery visit. It suits visitors who enjoy contemporary art, collectors, and people keen to discover artists at different stages of their careers. Leighton Contemporary was founded and is directed by Jessica Leighton, whose stated focus is on supporting artist visibility, development and engagement with audiences. The gallery has a five-star Google rating from 12 reviews.
Spot Score
The Spot Score is our composite of five signals — two about the venue's standing with visitors and three about how complete and current this listing is. It is not a visitor rating and not a verdict on the food or the experience. The 5.0 from 12 reviews is Google's visitor rating, shown separately and never altered by us.
