Why it's worth checking out
Sneaky Baron is a Maroochydore restaurant built around burgers, smoked meats, coffee, breakfast and cold beer. At 2 Ocean Street, it offers walk-in dining as well as online ordering, with a menu that moves from a morning feed and flat white through to substantial burgers, barbecue plates and shareable sides. The venue’s own writing has a deliberately cheeky tone, which carries through in the names of its dishes and the playful “best burgers, better booze, bad chat” attitude.
The burger range is the main draw. Patties include smashed wagyu beef, while the Brisket Bacon Smash combines a house-ground brisket and bacon patty with red cheddar, truffle aioli, pickles and the venue’s pink sauce. Other options include the Cluck Norris with crispy fried chicken, Asian slaw, jalapeños, sriracha and kewpie mayo; the Brisket Burger, made with 12-hour mesquite-smoked brisket; and the Veggieterrible, a pea, spinach and cumin-spiced patty. There is also a larger selection for serious appetites, including the Sneaky Deluxe and the meat-heavy 3BC.
Smoked dishes give the menu another focus. The restaurant lists baby back ribs smoked over applewood for six hours, a smoked brisket plate with mac and three cheeses, slaw, pickles and dipping sauces, plus the Meat Matters Plate for sharing. The Reuben uses hickory-smoked brisket pastrami, bacon-infused sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, mustard and pink sauce on toasted rye. Sides range from chips, onion rings and jalapeño poppers to loaded options such as poutine and the Loaded Bull, which includes smoked brisket, chipotle cheese sauce, blue cheese sauce, jalapeños and shallots.
There are clear options for different kinds of visits. Breakfast and coffee make it suitable for an earlier stop, while the burgers, beer and smoked meats are aimed at lunch or dinner. A kids’ menu includes a cheese burger and chicken pops, each served with chips and tomato sauce. Groups can look to the slider selection, wings and sharing plates, while the regular in-store deals add another reason for locals to return: Little Wally burgers on Wednesday, Cluck Norris burgers on Thursday, and wings on Sunday. The site also lists a beer-and-burger combo available every day, with deals applying to in-store purchases.
