The G Contemporary is a contemporary art gallery on Hastings Street in Noosa Heads, presenting an eclectic collection by Australian and international artists. Its programme spans two-dimensional work, ceramics and bronze sculpture, with exhibitions selected and curated to introduce audiences to relevant contemporary art. The gallery’s artist list includes Andrew Bryant, Anne-Marie Zanetti, Ben Hedström, Rosella Namok, Walala Tjapaltjarri, Zhong Chen and many others, giving visitors a broad range of practices and perspectives to explore.
The gallery also offers bespoke art consultancy for individual pieces or complete collections. That advice is presented in an informal, approachable setting, making the space relevant not only to experienced collectors but also to people seeking guidance on choosing or building an art collection. The directors’ work includes art advice and sales, and their long-standing relationships with artists and clients support a considered approach to matching works with individual interests and spaces.
Karen and Steve Beardsley established The G Contemporary in 2008, beginning in a 100-year-old Queenslander in the Noosa hinterland. Over time, the gallery developed a reputation for showcasing contemporary artists alongside ceramicists and bronze sculptors. The directors have also participated in international art fairs, promoted artists to audiences in Asia and worked with local Australian clients. Their national and international networks have helped broaden the gallery’s artist collaborations, while their support of emerging Australian artists has included mentorship and introductions to clients and other art establishments.
In 2020, The G Contemporary moved into its present contemporary space in the centre of Noosa. It suits visitors who want to spend time with changing exhibitions, discover a wide selection of artists or discuss art for a home or collection. The gallery’s work is grounded in the idea that art can create conversation as well as add pleasure and culture to the spaces people inhabit. Its acknowledgement of the Kabi Kabi people, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which it works, also places its activities within a recognition of First Nations connection to land, waters, community, art and culture.
Spot Score
The Spot Score is our composite of five signals — two about the venue's standing with visitors and three about how complete and current this listing is. It is not a visitor rating and not a verdict on the food or the experience. The 4.5 from 12 reviews is Google's visitor rating, shown separately and never altered by us.
