The J Noosa

The J Noosa is a community, arts and entertainment hub in Noosa Heads, presenting a varied programme of children’s activities, film, comedy, dance, live theatre, live music and conversations. Its calendar includes touring shows, film festivals, music events, comedy performances and local productions, giving the venue a broad appeal for audiences looking for an evening out, a daytime screening or regular entertainment close to the centre of Noosa. The venue also hosts school holiday performances and other community programming.

The main auditorium is the venue’s defining space. It can be arranged with flat or tiered theatre seating for 338 people, with a further 64 seats on the mezzanine, and includes high-quality sound and lighting equipment plus a full-size cinema screen. The theatre has full wheelchair access, air conditioning, a large foyer, nearby bathrooms and bar facilities, and opens onto a covered timber courtyard. For productions and presentations, the stage measures 72 square metres and is supported by a green room, loading dock and personal lifter.

The J also caters for events beyond standard performances. Its spaces are available for conferences, conventions, dinners, award nights, workshops, forums, training sessions, interviews and private or corporate functions. Alongside the auditorium are meeting rooms, an upper foyer with access to a commercial kitchen, covered outdoor decks and open foyers. A dedicated events team assists with planning, while the venue’s flexible layout allows different rooms to be used for different types and sizes of gatherings.

There is a clear community and creative focus behind the venue. The J opened on 27 October 2006 and is home to Noosa Community Radio, a Community Art Gallery and creative initiatives such as SITE Residency, a two-month programme supporting artists across disciplines. The gallery has also presented work by Australian contemporary abstract painter Margaret Builder. The venue has hosted events including TEDx Noosa, Noosa Alive!, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and performances by Australian and international artists, comedians and theatre productions. With its mix of public events, accessible facilities and hireable spaces, The J suits families, arts audiences, community groups, conference organisers and private event hosts.
