Practical details
Why it's worth checking out
Caloundra Headland Foreshore Reserve is home to the Caloundra Headland Memorial Walkway, a coastal path with a strong connection to the area’s military history. The walkway runs for about 1.2 kilometres from the Kings Beach Surf Club on Spender Lane, around the headland to the Shelly Beach access road, combining coastline views with places set aside for remembrance.
The walkway includes around 2,550 plaques commemorating Australian and Allied Defence personnel, allowing veterans’ families and loved ones to locate individual memorials through an accompanying database. Other significant sites include the memorial to the Australian Hospital Ship Centaur, sunk by a Japanese submarine in 1943 with the loss of 268 lives, and the Caloundra Headland Memorial in Anzac Park. Caloundra Headland is also noted as the starting point of the World War II “Brisbane Line”, adding wider historical context to the memorials along the route.
Established in 1994 and dedicated as a war memorial on Remembrance Day in 1995, the walkway is administered by the Caloundra RSL Sub Branch Military Display team with the cooperation of Sunshine Coast Council. It is described as a relatively easy walk, including for people who are infirm, with several places to stop and reflect. The setting suits solo visitors, families and small groups looking for a thoughtful coastal walk, particularly those interested in local history, military service and personal remembrance.
Spot Score
The Spot Score is our composite of five signals — two about the venue's standing with visitors and three about how complete and current this listing is. It is not a visitor rating and not a verdict on the food or the experience. The 4.6 from 21 reviews is Google's visitor rating, shown separately and never altered by us.
